How to Make DIY Escape Rooms at Home (Without Spending a Fortune)

Creating your own escape rooms can be challenging. And expensive. I’m here to change that (here’s more about me!).

I make building escape rooms easier for you. I provide you with exactly what you need (boxes, locks, props, hints, tips, etc.) and include all the setup directions for using those items.

All you need to do is gather up the supplies and then follow my directions!

These games are fully reusable. Once you have the necessary supplies to play one game, you have all the supplies to play every game, including anything I make in the future. You only need to get the supplies once.

Cheap and Reusable Escape Rooms You Can Play at Home

What Are Reusable Escape Rooms?

It’s simple: all the items you need for the game—whether you buy them or use substitutes you already have—will work over and over again.

I make unique escape rooms that apply to the same set of objects. Each game falls under a new theme, there’s a new setup procedure, the items are hid in different locations, etc.

All you need is the directions and the supplies. Together, we’ll create nearly limitless unique varieties of games you can play over and over for any occasion.

Who Is This For?

Anyone wanting to save money when making escape rooms can play these games. This might include:

  • Families get-togethers (Thanksgiving, Christmas, indoor parties, etc.)
  • Companies looking to strengthen team-building skills
  • Teachers who want to make unique breakout rooms for different classes
  • Birthday parties, especially for families with multiple kids
  • Competitive friend groups who love games

Everything you need is listed below. The necessary supplies are on the left, and the available games that go with those supplies are on the right. (These aren’t public yet, but do let me know if you want this!)

It doesn’t really matter how you get the supplies as long as you have them. If you’re missing something, the directions will not work correctly.

That said, if your awesome research skills land you on a website where you can get one or more things cheaper than the source I provide, go for it!

You can use the links as they’re given below, or you can buy them from a different retailer you prefer. Or even borrow them from someone else or use a substitute that’s lying around the house (e.g., a cardboard box instead of a real box). It really is up to you.

I hope you’re as excited to make your own escape rooms as I am to build these!

Everything’s Reusable! I want to make this abundantly clear. All directions work for the same items listed in the left column. You do not need to buy duplicate supplies. It’s possible that some games in the future will not use all the supplies listed here, but I’ll never make you get more than what’s listed below.
